We invite artists to show there creations whenever we hold fun family events like a talent show or coffee house. We also used music and had artist create during the music.

We have a young girl at our church, 13 years old, who draws prophetic pictures during the message. We also have a 14 year old girl who loves to draw pictures of lions by looking a photographs. We are planning to encourage these girls by providing them an easel and large flip boards of paper to draw during our new youth meetings.

Our church has a community development ministry that runs a Hip-Hop academy for youth in the public schools, teaching them to express themselves thru the elements of hip-hop: breakdancing, emceeing, DJing and aerosol art.

We also incorporate the elements of the performing arts into our worship services including a graffiti artist who works on backdrops during the worship service, and guest artists come and perform, leading us in worship through spoken word, theatre, breakdancing, gospel choir, praise dance, emceeing and DJing.

The children’s ministry presents a dramatic Passover re-enactment every spring to celebrate the biblical holy day of Passover, and we use the kids’ artwork to create the backdrops, and the children also get to choose to particpate as actors, singers or dancers in the production.

I’d love to hear how other ministries are using art, and especially the visual arts, as outreach and mission, not just worship.

I believe the writings of Francis Schaeffer could be a valuable resource in this undertaking.
